Microsoft May Replace Lumia With Surface Phone

Microsoft is rumored to be putting an end to the Lumia brand in favour of Surface Phones.

Microsoft may replace Lumia with  Surface Phone. This is supposed to help revive Microsoft’s dying smartphone business. The rumors concerning the death of Lumia seem pretty convincing.

An employee at the company(anonymous) told WinBeta that the company is preparing to end sales of the Lumia brand this year, December 2016. This claim seems to be true due to the fact that only four Lumia models are left on the market. This year new Lumia phones were not made. Many retailers have been offering steep discounts and removing the phones from in-store prominence.

For its website, the company removed the link to its Lumia range from its homepage in the US, while subsequently changing it on its other regional sites from Lumia to Windows phones.

Further evidence comes from two since-deleted tweets from Laura Butler, engineering director at Microsoft, who posted “Surface iPhone. ;-)” on September 6, and “Surface Phone not NOT confirmed. :-)” on September 7, in reply to questions posed by other Twitter users. The double negatives used implies Surface Phone confirmed.

Whether true or false, a lot of us won’t be sad to see Lumia go. Even software developers have since dumped Windows Phone for Android and iOS. As a result, people have shown little interest in Microsoft’s phones making it irrelevant.

Microsoft refused to comment on the ending of its Lumia range. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Microsoft will be holding an event in October to announce a Surface all-in-one. Maybe the phone could be revealed as well, or it just might be held back till 2017.
